No prior experience is needed! This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to experience one of the most exciting and rewarding ceramic firing techniques, with beautiful and unpredictable results every time.
Day one – Make
  • Create your own unique ceramic pieces using hand-building techniques.
  • Choose to make pinch pots, decorative tiles, or small bowls while exploring the creative possibilities of working with clay.
  • At the end of the session, you'll leave your work at the studio to dry before it is bisque fired and prepared for the Raku workshop. Day two is usually 2-3 weeks from day one.
Day two – Raku fire
  • During the first half of the workshop, you'll glaze the bisque-fired pieces you created in the previous making session.
  • You'll then discover the magic of the outdoor Raku firing process as your work is heated in the kiln and carefully removed while glowing hot.
  • Using traditional reduction techniques, smoke and flames create dramatic colours and unique surface effects, making every piece completely one of a kind.
You'll have the opportunity to take part in the firing process, decorating and smoking your creations as they come from the kiln. At the end of the session, you'll be able to take your finished Raku-fired ceramics home.
