Rolling Your Clay Slab
Before cutting out your Christmas decorations, you'll prepare your clay base by rolling it into an even, flat slab. Place your lump of clay between two wooden roller guides (0.5cm thickness sticks) on your canvas mat.
Trace and Cut
Place your vegetable template onto the clay slab. Using a needle tool, scalpel, or a fine-tip carving knife held at a straight 90-degree angle, carefully cut around the edges of the template to isolate your festive shape.
Refine Edges
Gently run a damp finger or sponge along the cut edges of your clay piece to smooth away any rough burrs or crumbs, leaving you with a clean, well-defined vegetable ornament ready for texturing and detailing.
