6 x 3 hours Class size 1 to 4     label £180

The classes are small and flexible, as you get lots of individual attention you can start your 6 week course on any Monday available.

If you've always wanted to give pottery a try and wanted a brilliant introduction to this timeless craft, this six-week course will teach you all the basic skills you need to get started on your journey.

Clay has a real therapeutic quality and helps the mind switch off from everyday pressures and we learn to just play again, it's also very addictive. The learning never ends, but that's the joy of clay!

You will enjoy five weeks of making your pottery.

You will learn how to make a pinch pot, use coils of clay, slabs of clay and finally use the potters wheel. The sixth class is reserved to return and glaze all your work once it has been bisque fired. The bisque firing can take a few weeks after you have completed the fifth week of your classes, so your tutor will help sort out the best time to suit both of you.

Everything you need to enjoy your practice is ready and waiting at the studio, including pottery wheels, slab roller and coiler, which will take the hard work out of working with clay so you can get on with the fun part: creating.

Once you've picked up the basic skills, you'll then use slips and glazes to decorate your pieces.

No matter your level of experience, your tutor will be on hand throughout the course to share plenty of insider knowledge and tips, helping you grow your skill set and take the best possible first step into this engrossing hobby.

Classes can be flexible to suit both you and the tutor, the classes are 2.5 hours plus half an hour to clear up so 3 hours in all, to give you plenty of time to use the clay and clear up before you leave.

I started my clay journey with pottery painting, the closure of the shop led me to buying the equipment to carry in at home, I then progressed to weekly college classes and fell in love with the potters wheel. I wanted to know how to fire my kiln properly and how to make glazes, this then led me to uni as a mature student completing a ceramic design degree. I feel pottery has more errors than success and is a forever learning process. I love the variety of clay and the therapeutic value I get from it, as someone who loves to learn I have found something that continues to amaze me and I enjoy sharing the knowledge I have gained over the years
