Learning about different dye material

Learning About Different Dye Material

The class will begin with an overview and introduction into the world of natural dying. We will talk about equipment, the dye material and the materials we can use. Natasha will give you the fundamental knowledge, and allow for any questions for personal projects and how to make this beautiful craft accessible at home!

Sampling

Sampling

After talking through the possibilities- next you can try for yourself using smaller samples of pure silk and cotton silk blends. This is to see how you can combine colours, and get a taste of what natural dying is like before you commit to dying your large scarf. The samples will steam for 20 minutes, so you can enjoy a short break whilst we wait.

Creating your final product

Creating Your Final Product

This is the part of the workshop where you will naturally dye your own silk scarf! It’s a really mindful process and guests always enjoy the process of laying down the material and planning design choices!

Steaming the final pieces

Steaming the Final Pieces

The next step is the final pieces get rolled up by you and then I pop them in the steamer for 25 minutes- again a nice chance to pause, grab a little coffee and maybe wash your hands!!

The grand unveiling

The Grand Unveiling

The scarves are cooled and then you can unravel them… pure magic! The plant material gets discarded and Natasha will talk through after care of your scarf…

Hi fellow crafters!
My name is Natasha and I’ve spent the last ten years since graduating from Chelsea College of Art (BA) honing my craft, learning, and teaching hundreds of workshops within the charity sector, for prestigious gardens, and top fashion houses. I recently finished my master's in textiles at Manchester School of Art (MA) and completed my Yoga teacher training in India, with a focus on inclusivity through additional trauma-informed training.
My passion and great love is creating welcoming spaces for people to be engaged in traditional craft and art. I work from a non-judgmental and encouraging attitude, so I will leave you to enjoy the process, but I am always happy to nerd out about craft and appreciate you picking my brains and expertise!
I truly believe in the transformative power of making and mindfulness found in the creative process. I help to manage my own stress with creativity, and my own artwork explores this immersion in the process of art-making along with a connection to nature. I work from a cozy art studio, where you are welcome to come and do a class, but I am very happy to host private sessions at your house or venue, and regularly collaborate with organizations and venues to bring you high-quality craft and art sessions. See you soon!
