What you'll do
In this hands-on pottery workshop in Manchester, you'll blend two different coloured clays to create a stunning, unique marbled vessel, perfect for a contemporary home accent. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some clay experience, you'll love watching the beautiful swirl of colour emerge as you work.This is a hand-building class, so no wheel is required. The session focuses on the foundational techniques of preparing and manipulating marbled clay.Here’s what you'll learn and create:
- Marbling technique – Discover how to wedge, layer, and gently blend two different coloured stoneware clays to achieve the perfect, organic swirl pattern without over-mixing.
- Slab construction – Learn to roll your marbled clay into a flat slab and use simple tools to cut, shape, and join the clay to form a beautiful, seamless vessel.
- Finishing touches – Refine the lip and base of your piece to ensure it is sturdy and visually balanced.
- Your vessel will be handled with care after the workshop. We will fire the vessels, and our team will fill them with wax should you choose this option.
- Your finished vessel or candle will be ready for pick-up at the studio in approximately 6 weeks.

Your teacher
We are Makers Quarter a brand new Makerspace in the heart of Manchester City centre. A one stop shop for creativesr, designed to support many different practices. We have a fully equipped pottery school, Art & Design studio equipped with screen printing beds, jewellery making facilities and a textiles and upholstery studio. The facilities will be bookable for members and most excitingly we will be hosting classes in all mediums giving the wider public the chance to learn a creative skill. The classes will be hosted by our members, local experts and well regarded international crafts people.With the combination of classes and members drop in sessions we are giving visitors the chance to get hands on and seasoned pros a space to thrive….“We are evolving spaces for creatives & communities alike, which will hopefully make a positive impact in the way creative people can work”.
