Want to personalise your home with a gorgeous light fixture or are you keen to create a unique gift for someone special? Sign up to this four-week evening class, where you'll learn the fundamentals of block carving, printing on textiles and lampshade construction.

Hosted by an experienced printer at the unmistakable House for an Artist in Glasgow, you’ll learn how to design and carve a block from which you can develop a printed pattern. The first part of the class will focus on creating a length of block printed fabric, which you will then use in the final session to construct the lampshade.

Your talented host Kate will also share her knowledge of inks and fabrics and point you in the direction of ethically produced and more sustainable materials.

Everyone will leave after the final session with a finished lampshade, a carved block and the know-how to continue their block printing adventure!

What you'll get

Studio Pavilion at House for an Art Lover offers free contemporary art in a public park, presenting a robust and diverse year-round programme of exhibitions, events, residencies, courses and public engagement opportunities that span art, design and architecture.

Designed by ZM Architecture and linked to the Victorian Walled Garden, the Studio Pavilion is a highly significant addition to House for an Art Lover in Glasgow’s Bellahouston park. Opened in 2014, it provides a space in which to present a regularly evolving and active public programme that sits alongside the House as a visitor attraction. With its innovative design enabling it to transform between exhibition space and artist’s studio, the Studio Pavilion hosts exhibitions, events and workshops with leading contemporary artists and designers.

We aim to present an ambitious, pioneering and challenging programme that is visible and relevant locally, while being nationally and internationally aware.
