Welcome to The Creative Society Manchester
Award-winning creative workshops, cultural experiences and seriously good events across Manchester!
The Creative Society Manchester was created with a simple idea:
Creativity should be for everyone.
Since then, we’ve welcomed thousands of people through our doors and delivered over 300 workshops and events, from intimate weekend art classes to large-scale cultural events, heritage workshops, private parties and creative experiences for some of the UK’s best-known organisations.
And you absolutely do not need to be an artist to join us.
Our workshops are relaxed, social and genuinely beginner-friendly. Come alone, bring a friend, plan a date or gather the whole group. We’ll give you the materials, teach you the techniques and help you create something you’re actually excited to take home.
A little different from your average art class:
One week you might be repairing pottery with gold in our Kintsugi workshop.
The next you could be learning medieval manuscript illumination, painting, exploring Islamic geometry and calligraphy or joining us for one of our bookish and cultural events.
We love traditional crafts, beautiful materials, fascinating histories and finding ways to make them accessible to modern audiences.
Many of our cultural and heritage workshops begin with an introduction to the history and meaning behind the art form, so you’re not simply making something. You’re discovering the story behind it too.
We also run creative socials, literary events, costume parties, murder mysteries, quizzes and themed evenings.
Basically, if it sounds creative, interesting or slightly unusual, we’re probably interested!
Meet Sumayyah
The Creative Society was founded by Sumayyah, an award-winning Manchester artist, creative facilitator and mindfulness instructor with a background in psychology and art psychology.
Her work spans contemporary art, traditional and heritage crafts, cultural programming and creative well-being.
Sumayyah has designed and delivered creative experiences for universities, cultural institutions, community organisations and major businesses, as well as hundreds of public workshops across Manchester, the UK and internationally.
At the heart of her practice is the belief that creative spaces should feel welcoming.
No judgement. No expectation that you already know what you're doing. No pressure to make something perfect.
Just good teaching, interesting people and the chance to make something.
Everyone is welcome
We know walking into a workshop alone can feel intimidating.
That’s why inclusion has always been central to The Creative Society.
Our sessions are designed to be welcoming to complete beginners, solo guests, experienced creatives and people who may not always feel comfortable in traditional art spaces.
We want you to be able to arrive exactly as you are, settle in and enjoy creating.
Find us across Manchester
Our workshops pop up in brilliant venues across the city, with regular sessions in Didsbury and collaborations with cultural organisations, universities, businesses and other Manchester spaces.
You’ll find everything from relaxed two-hour workshops to half-day masterclasses, private events, corporate experiences and wonderfully over-the-top themed nights.
Come for the art. Come for the history. Come because you need to get out of the house and do something completely different.
We’ll take care of the rest.
The Creative Society Manchester
Award-winning. Independent. Manchester made.
We hope to see you at a workshop soon.
