What you'll do
Unwind and get hands-on learning a fun and unique skill at this half-day rug tufting workshop in Islington Mill, Salford.
In this craft class, you'll use cut pile and loop pile electric tufting guns to make your own 45x45cm rug with a custom design. Create a cute motif, an icon from your favourite video game or a minimal drawing with up to six yarn colours — the choice is yours!
Your expert teacher will supply all the tufting materials and equipment, including a projector, to help you create an accurate and faithful design that will look perfect in your home.
On the hunt for crafty team building activities or fun things to do in Manchester with a partner? Dip your toes into tufting and learn to create your own piece of stunning textile art as you relax in a vibrant and inspiring space.
Your rug will be glued and backed with felt during your workshop so you can take your multicoloured masterpiece home on the same day.
Please note:
- You must be at least 18 years of age to attend this class.
- Yarn colours can be requested in advance so you have all the desired colours ready to use.
- Please send your design ideas up to three days before your workshop to allow for preparation. If you have a design in mind, emailing your teacher with the image will ensure the yarn colours you’d like to use are in stock.
- Your teacher can travel to major UK cities via public transport for this workshop. Transport costs must be reimbursed.

Manchester Tufting Workshops was established in 2020, with the goal of publicly teaching the fascinating art of rug tufting without needing to undergo a degree. At the time, the only way to learn tufting from someone knowledgeable was through a university setting. I wanted to create a more accessible way of learning that was open to everyone with any skill level. Especially since I learn best in-person and because I was taught by a wonderful textile tutor, it was important to me to foster the right atmosphere to inspire others.
I have over 6 years of experience with electric and pneumatic tufting equipment, beginning my journey in 2016 whilst studying visual arts at the University of Salford.
