Learn My Step-by-Step Technique
I’ll guide you through my own oil painting process, showing you how I build an expressive painting from start to finish.
You’ll learn how to begin with simple shapes, mix colours, layer paint, and use brushstrokes to create movement, texture, and feeling.
This is not about copying perfectly, but learning my technique and gaining confidence to paint in your own expressive way.
Finding the Painting Beneath the Surface
We’ll begin by looking at the subject in a simple, approachable way. Instead of worrying about perfection, you’ll learn how to break the image down into shapes, tones, and areas of colour. This helps you build a strong foundation while keeping the painting loose, lively, and expressive.
Playing with Colour and Oil Paint
Oil paint is rich, bold, and full of possibility. I’ll show you how I mix and layer colour, create movement with brushstrokes, and use texture to bring energy into a painting. You’ll learn how to make confident colour choices and enjoy the process of letting the painting grow in your own hands.
Your Finished Painting to Take Home
Towards the end of the workshop, I’ll show you how to bring your painting together with final details, expressive marks, highlights, and small adjustments.
You’ll learn how to step back, look at your painting as a whole, and decide what it needs next, with gentle guidance and personal feedback.
The workshop takes place in a welcoming art studio within an art gallery, surrounded by creativity and inspiration.

Painting is something I’ve never been able to get my head around, but I still can't believe what I painted in just a few hours. I do a lot of different creative workshops and this is the best one I have done. Lucie is such a wonderful teacher and takes you through it all step by step. Everyone in the class created something brilliant and we all felt more knowledgable afterwards of how to approach oil painting.
