2 hours Class size 1 on 1

£110 - £120 (Earlybird price of £110 applies if you book into a public session 23+ days ahead)

In this practical sewing workshop, you'll learn how to professionally cut fabric using commercial patterns. Throughout the two-hour session, you'll develop essential pattern layout and cutting techniques while preparing your own garment pieces ready for sewing.
This one-to-one activity welcomes participants of all skill levels, requiring no previous sewing experience. The focused approach makes pattern cutting – often considered the most intimidating part of garment construction – accessible and approachable for complete beginners.
You will be learning from a local professional fashion designer with more than 30 years' experience, in a city-centre studio, near to Manchester's Northern Quarter, inside the NOMA District. The session provides step-by-step guidance as you learn to interpret pattern markings, position pattern pieces efficiently on your fabric, and cut with precision. You'll need to bring your own sewing pattern and fabric for the garment you wish to create.
By the end of this informative workshop, you'll have cut all the necessary pieces for your chosen garment and gained valuable skills in pattern usage that will benefit all your future sewing projects.

I started learning sewing at seven years old from my mum, who was a dressmaker working in couture, and drawing from my grandad, who was an artist. I then got into bespoke dressmaking class with grown-ups at 11 (I was the youngest student!), starting a long professional career in fashion design, graduating in 1992 (Madrid) and 2000 (Manchester).
I hold two BA (Hons), one in industrialised fashion design and pattern cutting and another in fashion design with styling. I have had my own fashion company and fashion brand of my own name since the early 90s and I have released numerous collections from vintage styles to streetwear and couture, some for my company and others for other companies.
I have also taught fashion design BA (Hons) at Donghua University in Shanghai (PR China) for three years full time, but I missed designing and making so I decided to only teach occasionally now, so I can mainly create, but I have since taught workshops in anything fashion design related, from sewing to dressmaking, pattern cutting and fashion upcycling. I have taught and tutored thousands of students that have successfully accomplished a career in fashion and many who just wanted to learn to make their own clothes.
I have a lovely and quirky studio in Manchester's Northern Quarter where I create lovely high-end bespoke clothes and you are welcome to come and learn from me on a one-on-one basis.
