How can we help?
Q: What happens once your class has finished...?
We will now start the process of finishing your lovely pottery off for you, which starts with allowing them to dry for at least 2 weeks & trimming the pots before the first bisque firing. Our technicians then glaze and fire them a second time, taking around 2 weeks bringing your fabulous creations to life. Due to the high volume of pots we need to get through, we are currently working to a 6 week timeframe from the date of your class. The allocated pick up windows after the 6 weeks are: 1pm - 6pm Monday - Wednesday If you would like to pay for Postage & Packaging you can do so in the studio after your class. You should receive your pottery within the same timeframe. You will receive a tracking code from Royal Mail once your items have been shipped.

What you'll do
Learn to create a unique and atmospheric ceramic house lantern at Makers Quarter Pottery Studio in Manchester! In this creative pottery workshop, you'll discover the satisfying art of hand-building with clay. Our expert instructors will guide you through the process of making your very own decorative house lantern, perfect for a cosy night in or a unique gift.Don't worry if you're new to hand-building -- this session is perfect for complete beginners, and you'll receive plenty of support and guidance. What you'll learn:
- Slab building techniques: master the fundamentals of working with clay slabs. You'll learn how to roll, cut, and score flat sheets of clay to construct the walls, floor, and roof of your lantern.
- Using moulds: we'll show you how to use simple moulds to create perfectly formed roof and base pieces, ensuring a stable finished product.
- Adding detail: get creative with carving! You'll cut out windows and doors to let the light shine through and add decorative elements to give your house its own unique personality.
- Finishing touches: you'll choose from our range of beautiful glazes to add colour and a protective finish.

We are Makers Quarter a brand new Makerspace in the heart of Manchester City centre. A one stop shop for creativesr, designed to support many different practices. We have a fully equipped pottery school, Art & Design studio equipped with screen printing beds, jewellery making facilities and a textiles and upholstery studio. The facilities will be bookable for members and most excitingly we will be hosting classes in all mediums giving the wider public the chance to learn a creative skill. The classes will be hosted by our members, local experts and well regarded international crafts people.With the combination of classes and members drop in sessions we are giving visitors the chance to get hands on and seasoned pros a space to thrive….“We are evolving spaces for creatives & communities alike, which will hopefully make a positive impact in the way creative people can work”.
