Book Binding Workshop with Ruth McCann

Spend a day learning the art of hardbound bookbinding with guest maker Ruth McCann.In this 8-hour session, you will first learn about bookbinding tools and materials. Then, Ruth will guide you through the process step by step and teach you how to create your very own beautifully hand-bound A5 notebook or sketch pad.In the morning, you will fold and tear paper to size, then hand-sew the sections together before endpapers and spine lining are added to the book block.After lunch, you will make your book covers, choosing from a selection of different coloured book cloths and patterned papers to cover the grey board. The final stage is casing in the book, where the cover is attached to the book block.Starts at 10am and will last approximately 8 hours, including breaks. Light refreshments included, and there will be time to pop out for lunch.Ruth has a Master's in Fine Art and has been a bookbinder for 25 years. She worked in Hubert’s Hand Bindery in Cork, Ireland, for 3 years and then in Book Works in London for 7 years.
