Spend a creative session at the workbench in this ring-making workshop in Cardiff, where you'll make your own wide ring band, finished with a gemstone from a wide choice of stones. Stones available are typically 3–5 mm.
This is a hands-on, beginner-friendly class for anyone who'd love to design and craft a piece of jewellery that's entirely theirs.
Don't worry if you've never picked up a jewellery tool before – you'll have plenty of friendly support throughout, and you'll be working with high-quality materials and tools from start to finish. Your teacher will walk you through each technique, so you can take things at a comfortable pace and enjoy every step.
Here's what you'll get up to:
  • Shape and handcraft a silver ring with a wider band than stacking rings.
  • Experiment with surface finishes, textures and patterns to give each ring its own character.
  • Use a bezel setting to hold your choice of gemstone perfectly in place.
  • Learn core silversmithing skills, including ring sizing, shaping, soldering, filing, finishing and bezel setting.
It's a rewarding, feel-good way to learn skills you'll keep using long after the class, with that brilliant moment of seeing your gemstone settle into its setting for the very first time.
By the end of the day, you'll head home with a custom ring that you made yourself, plus a fresh boost of confidence in what your hands can create.

What you'll get
  • A finished ring band (up to 4mm wide) with a gemstone of your choice, from a wide selection.
  • A lovely presentation box to store it in safely or to use as a gift box.
Bands will typically be 3-4mm wide, with a rectangular or D-shaped profile.
Specific profiles can be requested in advance (at least 10 days).
Wider bands can be requested at least 10 days in advance, and these may incur a surcharge (this will be agreed in advance, and is payable on the day).
Knowledge required
No experience is required. You will have all the guidance you need to make a beautiful piece of treasured jewellery.
What to bring
  • Glasses or contact lenses if normally worn, including reading glasses.
  • Closed-toe shoes are essential. You will not be able to participate in the class if you are wearing open-toe shoes or sandals.
  • Loose items of clothing must be secured or removed, and long hair must be tied back.
  • For full day classes, a packed lunch is advised to make the most of the time available. A microwave and kettle are available for your convenience.
