Stitched Journeys – Travel Memories in Stitch
This 10-month-long course invites students just beginning their journey in hand embroidery, as well as those with experience, to translate personal travel memories into textile artworks. Each month focuses on a new destination (real or imagined), combining hand embroidery with fabric manipulation, different textures, and mixed media, whilst introducing a wide selection of different embroidery stitches to help you capture each journey.
Students will create either a collection of embroidered postcards or a continuous stitched scroll/timeline.
Each month, and alongside stitching, students will explore using different stitches along with fabric painting techniques, layered textures, and experimental materials such as Tyvek and Lutradur, wired and shaped embroidery, and padded and dimensional embroidery.
Students will be encouraged to look, observe, and draw personal designs to translate into small stitched finished pieces telling their story of all the places they have travelled.
Twelve dates are offered; choose the ten you'd like to attend across the year around holidays, etc.
