2 x 6 hours Class size 1 to 30 (public classes), 4 to 8 label £200

For a unique birthday party or just a fun day out in the woods with your friends, learn how to make a stool and pick up some woodworking skills in Staunton Harold.

You'll be taken through every step of this creative journey by a friendly and experienced teacher. They have loads of tips and tricks to help everyone master the art of transforming locally sourced hardwood into an incredible finished product you can keep around your house.

A stool is a great thing to make out of wood for beginners looking to learn some skills and if you are intrigued by some traditional woodworking tools like a drawknife, pole lathe and shaving horse. You can go for the personal and freeform leg style or use turning skills to make something more straightforward. You will then shape the stool top with hand tools before putting all the pieces together by hand.

During this six-hour woodworking class, you will learn:

  • How to cleave wood to size.
  • Axe work.
  • How to use a drawknife on a shaving horse.
  • The art of turning on the foot-powered pole lathe.
  • How to work with traditional hand tools.

Making your stool is also a fun wood project for a stag and hen do! Spend the day getting creative with your closest pals, and you might also find a new hobby you can all share.
