On the hunt for creative and relaxing Bristol activities? Discover the joys of crochet and build confidence with the crochet hook at this hands-on craft class.
You will learn the amigurumi technique, which is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed yarn creatures. This allows you to create 3D items which you can stuff and add personality.
In this crochet class, you will make a super cute hedgehog! With a friendly teacher at your side, you will learn some basic crochet stitches and shapes which you can apply to plenty of other projects you might try at home.
We recommend that you do have some foundational in crochet like knowing how to do a double crochet stitch to make this class easier to pick up, however, all abilities are welcome to join!
Please note:
  • The workshop is taught only in right-handed technique. Please contact the Folk House office before booking if you are left-handed.
  • The Folk House has no level access or accessible facilities.
  • You must be aged 18 or over.
What you'll get

Cristina Valladares

Passionate crocheter and keen crafter for 15 years. Nothing gives me more joy than making something with my own hands. I was taught crochet by a friend and it became an absolute passion ever since.

I have been involved in several collectives and yarnbombing groups working on different projects to put some colour and fluffiness into the street.
Teaching crochet has always been something natural to me. I started selling my amigurumies at craft fairs and markets six. Because of the feedback I was getting from the markets, I began to create patterns and crochet kits to sell. Classes and workshops were just the next step.
I believe that for someone that loves crochet as much as I do, to share the craft is only natural.

The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre providing a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for over 18's. The Folk House provides a welcoming environment in which to explore your creativity and learn new skills.
We provide courses and workshops that engage the local community. The cafe provides fantastic organic food and a space to get together before and after classes. It is also open to the public and is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxed and friendly place in Bristol city centre. Live music and festivals happen throughout the year, as well as markets, events and exhibitions.
The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and we receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution and our income is wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events.
The centre began in the 1870's with the aim of supporting access to education in the community. The first programme of activities was produced for the academic year in 1920-1921.
