Breathe in the inspiration from The Royal Standard artists and make a whole day of it by exploring the nearby venues, cafes and restaurants.
This rug tufting workshop with Ell-Squared is perfect for beginners who are eager to learn to tuft and create something unique. You'll make a 40cm-40cm tufted masterpiece which will be backed, carved and ready to take home the same day. There are also options for displaying your work as a floor piece, table decoration or wall hanging.
In the end, not only will you have mastered the basics of tufting but also created a beautiful hand-tufted artwork that's yours to take home. This an excellent memento of this delightful thing to do in Liverpool!
Please note:
On booking you will be asked to give an idea of what rug you'd like to make and two-three yarn colours you'd like to use.

Great to chat to whilst working - super friendly. We made rugs, then our teacher expertly backed them and we then carved details. Able to be really personal/make unique items. • 5/5 from Sally Meyer, attended Nov 2024: Ella and Leelee were incredibly helpful and made the workshop what it was. I booked this private workshop for my boyfriend’s birthday and had no idea what to expect. It was SO MUCH fun and so interesting to learn how to do something we’d never done before. You pick the colours beforehand so they had the colours ready for us on the day. We loved that it was the whole process of making a rug, not just the rug tufting bit but the shaving, carving, glueing etc. We would 100% recommend this class to anyone, it is absolutely worth the cost. You come away from the class having learnt how to make a rug AND you come away with a rug of your own. Thank you so much Ella and Leelee :)

ELL-SQUARED is a Liverpool-based craft and textile duo who graduated from university with a degree in fine art and a dream. For more than three years, we have been honing our rug-tufting skills and finding to new ways to transform wool into pieces of art.
It was largely up to us to teach others how to do rug tufting because it became so popular, but now we just can’t stop! We’ve realised that teaching and spreading this incredibly wonderful method to others is our calling. We love to share our knowledge and the process of rug-making with others, whether in large groups or one-on-one, having taught sessions in universities and at events, we feel the need to share our knowledge outside of a university environment. We want to allow people to explore the benefits of slow craft and as a form of mindfulness -- but also to create a space for people to get creative in a non-serious environment! We've been teaching rug making for over a year now, with the goal of providing a space for students to learn this highly therapeutic skill and demonstrating that it's not as intimidating as it appears.
