What you'll do
Are you on the hunt for things to do in South Wales that your whole family can enjoy? Then look no further than this glass art class. Get creative in a unique way and enjoy some quality time with the people you love.You'll be guided by the supportive and experienced teachers from Glass By Design as the children learn how to make a fused glass picture (10cm x 15cm) & the adults a fused glass hanger (18cm x 6cm). This creative workshop is beginner-friendly, so don't worry if this is a new activity for you. You'll get all the tips and tricks you need.Children aged eight and over are welcome to join us in this glass art workshop where they can come up with their own designs with help from their teacher. It's a really fun group activity for all the family and might be something you've never tried before. At least one adult needs to be booked & attend with their children.Start by applying colourful glass to your piece to form a custom design. Once you're happy, it'll be ready for firing. You will be amazed at the versatility of this 'drawing' & 'painting' technique and will end up with a stunning, long-lasting momento of your session together. By the end of this class, you'll have loads of great memories from spending time with your loved ones as well as a feeling of creative satisfaction from the glass art you made, & time for an ice cream on the Pier!Please note: Your item will need to be fired in a kiln in order to complete the fusing process. If you are local, it will be ready to pick up in approximately seven days (Your teacher will confirm this with you). If you have come from further afield and wish your item to be sent, there will be a nominal postal charge to pay. Price quoted is per student, not a family group. The instrictions were easy to follow, the facilities were great, toilets and coffee offered. Big selection of different types of creative glass to create our masterpieces. The teacher was helpful when needed but also left us to try things out. We weren’t rushed to finish on time, which was much appreciated - thank you! We can’t wait to pick up our art now. Angelina and Cathy met by chance whilst selling their work in Penarth, Christmas 2013. Their shared love of all things glass saw them develop a friendship and continue to work together.Their first idea was to develop an Open Studio trail for any local artist/crafter during the annual Penarth festival that following summer. It has fast become an established part of the festival and is developing year on year.They then joined a designer-maker section in a local Penarth shop where their customer base was steadily growing. Customers embraced the idea of bespoke, locally made pieces, rather than mass-produced imported ones that have saturated the marketplace.Their next logical step was to be able to work on-site and pass their love of the process of hand-making in glass to others. Hence, Glass By Design was born.
