Welcome and Class Intro

Welcome and Class Intro

Arrive, settle in and enjoy an intro on the tools you'll be using and how to handle the clay. You can use gloves and an apron if you'd like, plus masks will be available for the dry standing stage.

Clay Making

Clay Making

In this stage we will roll out the clay, apply a texture (using either your own organic item or a variety of available items). We will then add a gem and some embellishments using tiny moulds.

Drying The Clay

Drying the Clay

Place them onto a heat pad and we wait 15 minutes for the piece to dry fully -- during this time we can enjoy tea and biscuits and I will explain what happens during the firing. Once they are dry, we can sand and tidy up the pieces.

Admire Our Work

Admire Our Work

When all our pieces are finished we can admire our creative accomplishments and take some photos if you wish! You will receive your fired and polished pendant (with chain of course!) in the post within 7 days!

Join us for this unique copper metal clay jewellery workshop in Cardiff, where you'll make a 'textured by nature' pendant. Using organic materials, clay, gemstones and tiny moulds, you'll shape and embellish your pendant from scratch.
You don't need any experience to come along -- you'll be guided through each step in a relaxed and supportive environment. You'll learn new creative skills and have a beautiful pendant to show for it!
What to expect:
  • Learn the fundamentals of working with copper metal clay.
  • Use 12g of copper metal clay to create a nature-inspired pendant, with 2g reserved to make the slip used for attaching embellishments.
  • Press organic materials such as leaves, twigs, and shells into the clay to create natural textures.
  • Embellish your pendant with one gemstone and a selection of miniature moulds featuring leaves, moons, stars, and other decorative designs.
  • Dry your finished pendant on heat pads before admiring everyone's creations!
  • Receive a Metal Clay Alchemist Stage 1 certificate, which can be used to claim a discount on future Metal Clay Alchemist workshops with Sunnygems.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have designed your own unique pendant and gained the skills to continue exploring metal clay jewellery making. Your pendant will be professionally fired, finished, and returned to you within one week on your choice of a 16", 18", 20", or 24" copper-coloured chain, or as a keyring if you prefer.
What you'll get
  • A unique textured copper pendant made by yourselves! (this will be posted to you around 7 days after being fired in my studio).
  • A Metal clay alchemist certificate.
  • Free tea, coffee and biscuits during the class. Yum!
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly -- requires a relatively steady hand, however help will be on hand throughout.
What to bring
Just yourself -- and you're welcome to bring your own organic materials to personalise your pendant.
Location

Whitchurch Road, Cardiff CF14 3JP

Parking nearby is limited. A convenient parking option is Maindy Leisure Centre, which is approximately a 12-minute walk from the workshop.

Hello! I’m Hanna and I’m the owner of Sunnygems. I specialize in metal clay sculptural jewellery. I work mostly in bronze and copper and enjoy infusing themes into my work like medieval history, mythology, fantasy, and the beauty of nature. I originally started out studying animation before moving into illustration, where I loved creating detailed, nature-inspired artwork. Over time, my creativity led me to jewellery making. I first explored traditional techniques using sheet metal and wire wrapping, but everything changed when I received a small pack of metal clay for Christmas. The moment I tried it, I knew I'd found the craft for me, and I've been completely hooked ever since. Since starting my business in 2024, I have run 4 full-day bronze metal clay workshops. Everyone has left the workshops feeling like they enjoyed the experience, so I’ve decided to grow my workshops in an effort to be able to offer more creative opportunities to the world. Being able to share the love and joy of sculpting with metal clay and watching it transform from something so soft into solid metal is one of the most satisfying parts of the process. There's nothing better than seeing someone discover that magic for the first time and leave feeling proud of what they've created. My workshops are relaxed, welcoming, and designed for everyone, whether you're completely new to jewellery making or simply looking to try something different. I hope everyone leaves feeling inspired, confident, and excited to keep creating.
