Learn to weave and create your own beautiful wall hanging in this hands-on weaving workshop in Cirencester, where you'll master a range of texture-building techniques from start to finish. You'll begin by preparing your frame loom, learning how to warp it and position your base threads for a sturdy foundation – the essential groundwork that makes everything else possible.
From there, Julie will guide you through creating texture and pattern using rya knots, looped rya for plush areas, Soumak braid for raised, braided lines, and Egyptian knots for dense, patterned sections. You'll learn how to combine these techniques to build contrast and rhythm across your piece, with expert guidance on yarn choice, colour placement, and tension so your weave sits beautifully on the loom. It's tactile, creative work where you'll see your piece come to life thread by thread.
Finally, you'll learn the professional finishing touches: securing your final weft, safely removing the piece from the loom, adding a dowel, and preparing it for hanging. You'll trim and shape any loose ends until your wall hanging looks polished and gallery-ready. You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind textile creation and fundamental weaving skills that will stay with you – skills you can build on and develop in your own creative practice long after the workshop ends.

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
