Join this collage workshop series in Plymouth and explore storytelling, abstraction, and symbolism to create artwork with genuine meaning and personal narrative. You'll work on larger, more detailed pieces while experimenting with paint, texture, and even stitching – making it the ideal space to grow artistically and find your creative voice.
Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, there's no need to worry about your skill level. The atmosphere is low-pressure and supportive, with hands-on help every step of the way to ensure you feel comfortable and inspired.

What to bring
  • Please bring a packed lunch.
  • Papers and paper ephemera such as old notes, tickets, momentos, magazines, tissue, painted papers, wrapping, gelli prints, maps, envelopes, music sheets etc
  • Any old art papers with handmade marks: stains, charcoal rubbings, ink washes
  • Glue sticks for quick fixing
  • Matte gel medium for fine art adhesion + sealing
  • Acrylic paints (thin for washes)
  • Soft brushes, palette knives
  • Oil pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils
  • Stamps, stencil, sponge
Optional
  • Needle + thread for stitching through paper
  • Linen, lace or fabric fragments
  • Wood or card panels for substrates
  • Fine sandpaper (320–600 grit)
  • Bone folder or edge scraper

The Longhouse, Old Newnham farm - Plympton, Plymouth PL7 5BL

Once on Strode Road you will pass Aldi Superstore on the left and turn right at next mini roundabout on to Newnham Road. You will pass trading estates on either side, pass a left turn to ‘Newnham Estate’ (NB DON’T TURN) and then it is the third lamp post on the left (slate sign in wall – Old Newnham Farm). Drive down the drive, around 2 sharp bends and turn into courtyard on far left

Your teacher can also travel within 15 miles of Plymouth, to a venue of your choice for a private class.

Mad Hatters Studio, situated in a beautiful Grade 2 listed barn near Plymouth, offers contemporary craft workshops and masterclasses in mixed media, textiles, paper and painting.
Workshops are presented by Sheron King, (MA Contemporary Design, and qualified Cert ED Tutor) a designer maker working with mixed-media, painting, paper, ephemera and textiles. Sheron also has guest tutors.
Mad Hatter Studio, a creative haven for adults to explore art in a relaxed, interesting and inspiring setting set within a medieval, historic location on the edge of Plympton. Alongside her teaching, Sheron develops her own design practice under Rosa King Designs. Her work spans mixed media, printmaking, and textile-based surface design, often inspired by her travels, colour, texture, and layered mark-making. She is currently building a portfolio of designs and prints that reflect her distinctive, expressive style — vibrant, textural, and full of life.
Sheron is an avid collector of many things including vintage fabrics, beads, buttons, lace, papers, ephemera etc. These collections create a fascinating and inspiring, studio working space
Through Mad Hatter Studio, Sheron runs a variety of one-day, evening and short courses, including collage, mixed media, expressive mark-making, workshops with reclaimed textiles, and surface design. Her passion and ethos is one of re use and up cycling and encouraging others of the potentiality of using found objects. Sheron’s sessions encourage experimentation and personal expression, focusing on building confidence and finding joy and individual voice in the creative process.
Sheron loves helping others rediscover their creativity while continuing to evolve her own artistic journey. Her courses invite people of all levels to experiment freely and leave inspired, with new ideas and techniques to explore.
