Wax and Wine: Lost Wax Carving Workshop

Join this wax carving jewellery workshop in Bristol, where two local independents team up for a cosy Thursday evening of making in your favourite tap room. Sip a signature beer or a glass of wine while you discover the ancient art of lost wax casting and carve a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery to call your own.Rebecca and Beth from Silver & Steel, Bristol's highest-rated jewellery studio, will guide you through every step of carving your design. Think signet rings, botanical pendants or celestial stackers – if you can imagine it in 3D, they'll help you bring it to life. It's a good idea to arrive with a design in mind, but if you don't, that's no problem at all – experimenting is half the fun.Over the evening, you'll cover:

• What jeweller's wax is and how it's transformed into silver and gold jewellery
• Carving your own designs, from signet rings to charms to pendants

Your wax materials and expert tutoring are included, along with a medium glass of wine, a beer from the bar or a soft drink to enjoy as you carve.You'll leave with your very own hand-carved wax design and a new skill that turns a simple idea into something wearable – a feel-good evening of local craft, good company and a drink or two.Please note: there's no pressure to spend anything extra, but if you'd like your pieces cast into wearable jewellery, there are optional additional costs, which Rebecca and Beth will explain fully on the night. These include:

• Casting costs, which depend on the weight of your piece – choose from silver, gold or bronze, with prices set by the casting house and no mark-up added
• Gold plating
• A set finishing fee of £25 per person for the team to finish your pieces in house, with as many items included as you like
• The option to sand-cast and finish your pieces yourself at a drop-in workshop
