7 hours Class size 1 to 3 guests

  £150 - £200 (£200 per guest when you book for 1 guest, £160/guest for 2 guests, £150/guest for 3 guests)

This is a full-day introduction to the fascinating world of flame working glass, to create your very own masterpieces to take home.
To begin, we will use an oxy-propane lampwork torch to explore flame working. We will guide you to make several styles of stringers, thin strands of glass used for decoration later, and twists while you become accustomed to working with a flame.
We will then move on to make a number of glass beads and charms in several different styles.
Finally, we will try glass blowing, a small Christmas bauble.
Don't worry if you're new to working with glass – we will provide step-by-step instruction to guide you and demonstrate each step first to ensure you feel confident and inspired throughout the activity. You'll be amazed at how quickly you pick up the techniques and start creating your own unique design.

  • 5/5 from Abigail Hopewell, attended Jul 2025: I had a full day class with Ruth and it was an amazing experience, we discussed what I was looking to achieve from the session and she tailored the class to give me as much information as possible, I would highly recommend booking a class with her, she is very friendly and knowledgeable
  • 5/5 from Kiefer Cooke, attended Apr 2025: An amazing experience! As complete beginners, we felt welcomed and guided every step of the way. The instructor was patient, knowledgeable, and made it so fun. We created our own glass beads and were thrilled with the results. A perfect, creative day, definitely a 5-star experience we’ll never forget.
  • 5/5 from Cassie Chadderton, attended Mar 2025: What a fantastic day! I wasn’t expecting to learn or do so much. Great experience. Thank you Ruth and Andy.
  • 5/5 from Jade Steel, attended Feb 2025: Firstly Ruth was so lovely and welcoming I'm such an anxious person but she made me feel at ease right away. She taught me from the beginning as I had no experience. We then after a good chat got onto making some beads. Ruth would show me the process then i got to give it a go after. Ruth also provided me with a lovely homemade lunch. And after a chat over tea and biscuits, I got the freedom to create something of my choice. It was a lovely day and I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Ruth is a brilliant teacher. And I am so looking forwards to doing my next class with them!! Thank you so much for an amazing experience. Many thanks Jade
  • 5/5 from Chris, attended Sep 2024: Did a full day of lampworking with Ruth and she was perfect tbh. We went over technique, played around with them a lot, made loads of stuff and covered some safety and equipment stuff as I eventually wanna get set up on my own. We had a lunch of home-made soup made with veg from their garden! Such a lovely personalised experience. Would highly recommend. Thank you, Chris

Ruth and Andy Harrison are full time self-taught glass artists based in Burton-On-Trent.
Lampworking and fusing began as a hobby, quickly became an addiction followed shortly after by us selling our business and creating our own studio to work with glass full time.
Glass is an obsession that satisfies us artistically as well as suiting our engineering backgrounds, melting various glass colours and cooling them to room temperature while instilling strength and durability requires a scientific approach as well as an artistic one. We are constantly inspired by the never ending palette of colour available to us and seeking the unexpected reactions that occur between them.
We now teach to pass on our addiction to others!
