What you'll do
Join this fun and immersive 5-hour mould-making and casting workshop, which is designed especially for beginners. You will learn how to make a casting mould from the unique medium of cuttlefish bone, experimenting with two different techniques.This fascinating activity will show you how to hand-carve a unique pendant design of your choice. You will also learn how to press a small 3D object into the bone to create a second mould. Once your moulds are ready, your tutor will guide you through the exciting casting process right in the studio, using recycled silver scrap.After casting, you'll learn how to transform your silver pieces using traditional fabrication techniques. Your tutor will guide you through sawing, filing, soldering, and polishing, helping you bring your designs to life.You'll finish the session feeling incredibly proud, taking home two handmade pieces of precious metal designer jewellery that you’ve made from scratch using this age-old sustainable technique!Please note: The workshop is £150 per person, plus the cost of the silver used. The silver is charged at £2.50 per gram and will be weighed at the end of the session.

Set up by local jeweller Bethany May Silver, Silver & Steel aims to make the jewellery industry more accessible and tackle fast fashion culture in jewellery buying habits. We have created a custom built space for jewellery making and are using it to platform local independent designers, introduce people to the craft and create a space for local makers to work and learn together.Silver & Steel values community, accessibility and sustainability. We use 100% recycled silver in all of our workshops (gold available on request). We feel that coming together to learn, shop and invest in the craft is good for the future and we love to connect people with quality design that is light on the earth. Jewellery making is an empowering experience and we are passionate about sharing that with people. Our workshops are taught by experienced professional jewellers with a collective teaching experience of over 30 years. We are rated 5* on google and have the best reviews in Bristol!
