What you'll do
Join us for a relaxed afternoon learning all things mending. Learn about the history of different mending techniques around the world and use vintage darning tools. Technique-wise, we'll cover darning techniques including traditional, surface, and scotch darning on a darning loom and a variety of vintage mushrooms. We'll also cover Japanese mending techniques Sashiko and Boro and more freeform embroidery and patching techniques. Bring things to mend or leave with a range of samples. In an era where fast fashion is everywhere, to repair is to rebel! Learn techniques in a fun and experimental way, in good company.Sewing Skill Level: Beginner-friendlyYou’ll need: Items of clothing you'd like to mendMaterials included: Fabric, darning thread, sashiko threadLed by: Kim SearleWorkshops are hosted by Lark Design Make (36 Dogfield Street, Cardiff, CF24 4QZ), and it is recommended that you please read their Terms & Conditions before booking. Parking can also be tricky in Cathays, so please read their Contact Us page for directions and travel recommendations.Ticket is for one adult. To buy multiple tickets, please adjust quantity and add to basket. You may be required to show your purchase confirmation email at the workshop.Health & Safety: During the workshop, everyone will have their materials and tools. Travelling workshops run by Kim Searle. All my workshops are based on encouraging sustainability, building community and supporting attendees well-being. I am passionate about ensuring craft sessions are accessible to all, providing discounts on most courses for people on low/no incomes, seeking out venues that are wheelchair accessible and ensuring that workshops are calming with more of an emphasis on enjoyment and new skills over perfection.I also run workshops at festivals including Glastonbury, Green Man, End of the Road, Underneath the Stars, Deershed, Wychwood Cornbury, Greenbelt, Just So, Beacons, FarmFest, BeatHerder and more!I studied BA (Hons) Textile Crafts at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in textile printing. I’ve also studied weaving, felting, bookbinding, dark room photography and fine art printing at L'Ecole des Beaux Artes at Besancon, The Academy of Design in Kuopio and Leeds University, as well as studying a range of creative techniques on a foundation course at UcCA Canterbury.
