Screen Print Crash Course

Learn how to screen print using your own artwork or design, then print it by hand using a rubber squeegee!

3 hours Class size 1 to 6 guests       £55 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

The Screen Print Crash Course is designed to give beginners, or those looking to refresh, an easy introduction to the art of screen printing.
This session will cover the process of photo emulsion screen printing, which involves coating a screen with photosensitive emulsion. Once the screen is dry, it can have a digital or hand-drawn image exposed onto the light-sensitive surface. You will be invited to bring a digital image, be it a drawing, photograph, piece of text, or design, which we will then digitally manipulate and print onto acetate for the next step.
Using UV light, we will expose the image onto the screen like a photograph and wash out the image with water. This produces a stencil upon the mesh of the screen, which we will print ink through by hand using a rubber squeegee. You will be able to print a short run of prints onto paper to take home at the end of the session.
Nick will explain the possibilities of screen printing and its applications. This course is suitable for complete beginners, those who wish to gain the ability to screen print on their own, and those wishing to set up a screen printing station at home.
What you'll get
A small edition of their own hand printed artworks on paper to take home.
Knowledge required
Some physical dexterity in order to pull a rubber squeegee across the surface of the screen. This is similar to cleaning a window with a squeegee.
What to bring
An artwork or design they would like to print, as a digital file. This can be as a JPEG, Photoshop PDF or similar file that can be opened in Photoshop.
This artwork can be anything, including a photograph, drawing, digital design, text, or any artwork that can be printed as a single colour.
