What you'll do
Learn how to crochet your own cosy holders for house plants and bring some personality to your DIY home decor! With guidance from your fellow plant-loving teacher, you can make round and square baskets and hanging holders to dress up your pots to make them just as pretty as your green, leafy friends.We recommend that you have some experience with the crochet hook already, as this class is not for beginners. This Bristol experience will help you meet the crochet community in your area and find a bit of creativity.There will be lots of patterns and information available in the class for you to make different-sized containers. Get some top crochet techniques from your teacher and discover the rewarding joys of this relaxing activity. Please note:

Shirley Downey
Shirley has knitted and crocheted since she was a child, as she was lucky enough to have relatives who are all good stitchers. This lead her to completing a textiles degree in the late 90s as a mature student.
Having found that individual good quality knit and crochet items can be expensive to find and buy, she decided she would like to pass on her skills, so started teaching part-time, and has now been teaching for over 15 years.Shirley’s philosophy is that anyone can produce beautiful and individual items if they have the skills and ideas.
Your host
The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre providing a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for over 18's. The Folk House provides a welcoming environment in which to explore your creativity and learn new skills.We provide courses and workshops that engage the local community. The cafe provides fantastic organic food and a space to get together before and after classes. It is also open to the public and is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxed and friendly place in Bristol city centre. Live music and festivals happen throughout the year, as well as markets, events and exhibitions.The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and we receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution and our income is wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events. The centre began in the 1870's with the aim of supporting access to education in the community. The first programme of activities was produced for the academic year in 1920-1921.
