1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague in store for a One-to-one and ask any questions you have about crochet. Stuck on a project? Need help with understanding a pattern? Trying to get to grips with a new stitch? Our craft expert will share tips and techniques tailored to you.

This is suitable for crocheters looking for that next step on from our Beginners' Workshops, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to gain confidence with your craft, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about stitches you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Artisan know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a crochet pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Beckie Bick, attended Sep 2026: Karyn was amazing! She was so patient, really clear with her instructions, and gave plenty of praise and encouragement when needed. It was an absolute blast and genuinely the quickest hour ever! I’ll definitely be back in a couple of months once I’ve had a bit more practice. Thank you, Karyn! ️️️️️
  • 5/5 from Leanne Hanzel, attended Sep 2026: Karyn was great. Super enthusiastic, patient and kind. My 10 year old had a great time. She enjoyed lots of praise and encouragement :)
  • 5/5 from Lauren Murray, attended Apr 2026: Highly recommend. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed this session. Very clear, friendly teaching approach.
  • 5/5 from Roxane McElroy, attended Mar 2026: Had a great lesson with Emma today. Very patient with me. This was the first time I had tried crochet and I look forward to continuing with my crochet journey!
  • 5/5 from Emma King, attended Feb 2026: Karyn was just amazing! I’m left handed but I was able to follow Karyn’s stitching with ease and I’m so happy with what I’ve produced. Having spent hours watching videos online, nothing helped. Learning face to face and 1:1 is the best way as Karyn was able to show me where to put the hook etc. I would most definitely recommend Hobbycraft Rushden Lakes as a chilled relaxing place to go and learn a new hobby. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another session learning more detailed crochet in the near future. Thank you for your time and patience Karyn. From Emma
  • 5/5 from Kate Bowditch, attended Feb 2026: Brilliant 121 teaching session.
  • 5/5 from Michelle Coston, attended Jan 2026: After months of trying to learn via YouTube, I finally booked a one-on-one session, and it was a game-changer. My instructor corrected my hand positioning in minutes—something I never would have realized was wrong on my own. I really appreciated that she pointed out the good habits I had already formed and explained why they were important for my progress. She also cleared up my confusion regarding US vs. UK terminology and taught me how different yarn weights impact a project. I learned more in one hour than I did in months of self-teaching. Having immediate, real-time feedback made everything finally click! Highly recommended! Book today. :)
  • 5/5 from Katie Barker, attended Oct 2025: Thank you so much to Emma at Hobbycraft in Rushden Lakes for a truly fantastic class! I have been struggling with changing rows with my (sad attempts at) crochet, and Emma guided me through the process with precision, patience and grace. Some of Emma’s past creations (such as a lovely amigurumi bee) were on display to check out and I was pleasantly surprised to know the patterns were available online for free! It was a great experience, both in terms of improving my crafting skills, and getting to spend time with such a knowledgeable, skilled craftsperson such as Emma. Thank you to the team for organising such a fab session, and I will definitely be booking in again (once I’ve become more confident) to ask for help with a pattern! five stars across the board ️️️️️
  • 5/5 from Valery Caton, attended Oct 2025: Great experience all round. Feel more confident to try crocheting now :0)
  • 5/5 from Viviene Parkins, attended Jun 2025: Highly recommended very enjoyable
  • 5/5 from Louise Kemmery, attended Feb 2025: I had decided to take a One-to-One Crochet course as I had tried to learn crochet in other ways, but falied to do so. My tutor, Emma was great - really knowledgeable, personable and good fun. She taught very well, explaining everything carefully and ensuring that I had understood what she was teaching. Whilst I had tried to learn crochet using books, DVDs and the internet over several years - they all failed, Emma had me doing a nice and neat speedy chain stitch within a few minutes and a double crochet shortly after. The two of us sat at a table in the centre of the store, so throughout the lesson there were a few people walking around and looking at what I was doing. It didn't bother me as I was enjoying my time talking and laughing with Emma. I chose to buy a 5mm crochet hook and two balls of wool to use on the course and Emma advised me to use the Women's Institute Soft and Chunky wool which was perfect since you could easily manipulate the wool and could see all the threads of the stitches so making it easier to sort out any mistakes I made. Emma went through what I needed to do and corrected me when I was doing something not quite right, which we both laughed at. She wanted me to learn a good hand placement so that I could crochet over long periods once I had learned to do it properly. She tried to correct the placement of my two fingers which did keep moving out of place and causing me to drop the crochet and explained that she thought that that was probably because I had been doing a lot of knitting over the recent days and that this meant that my fingers had got used to being in a different position. Looking back it all seemed so easy to pick up. Everything was clearly explained and constantly checked that I was doing it properly. I was given documents that really clearly show how to hold the hook and manipulate the wool and get's you started off with chain stitch. In addition I got the instructions for the double and triple stitches to bring home. Everything is clearly explained in the notes and with plenty of pictures makes them a good reminder of what I had been doing in the lesson. Overall, I think that the One-to-One was perfect for what I wanted: someone to go over what I have repeatedly tried to learn and so was familiar with how to crochet, but just didn't know what was preventing me from doing it properly. Every time I tried to do it I was constantly dropping the hook, wool or both of them and was not able to make any progress at all. The best I had done over all those years was a length of ten wonky chain stitches. Now I can run that off within a couple of minutes and they're not wonky either and... I can even comfortably do the double crochet! All I need to do now, according to Emma who gave me this advice on leaving, was to do some crochet regularly, preferably every day at first. She went on to say that everyone finds it hard at the start but repeated practice really does get you used to it and you soon start getting good results from doing it. She really has instilled some confidence in me to be able to crochet so I'm already deciding which crochet course to do next.
  • 5/5 from Daniel Banathy, attended Apr 2024: My Teacher was amazing, her teach me the basic concepts, and I learned new as well. As a class one to one for me as a beginner absolutely needed to learn how to do the basics. Probably for a couple weeks and I will book other lessons as well.
