Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 3/5 from Nicky Taylor, attended Nov 2023: I was 10 mins late but it took another 15-20 mins to get started as the power lead couldn’t be found. I did expect to get those minutes back. Unfortunately the lady I was booked in for was sick, and I wish her well. Kat did her best, but the session was quite disjointed.
  • 5/5 from Nicky, attended Oct 2023: Lovely and informative lesson with Donna. Made me completely at ease and she was very knowledgeable.
  • 4/5 from Denise Pratt, attended Oct 2023: Donna was a very nice lady helped me a lot but I must say an hour wasn’t really enough time but £32 for two hours would be too expensive for me thank you
  • 5/5 from Katie, attended Sep 2023: I had a great 121 workshop today with Donna. Donna was friendly and knowledgeable and really helpful in giving me a greater understanding of my sewing machine and what projects I can carry out. I thought that the workshop was great value for money and would highly recommend it.
  • 5/5 from Wendy Ricketts, attended Sep 2023: I went to Harlow Hobbycraft and had an hours tutorial with Donna about sewing machines. It was very enjoyable and Donna went through all the different machines and I discussed what I was looking for. Once decided I was shown all through the machine, all the attachments and how to operate it. The tutorial was Very good value for money and I came away with a machine I’m happy with.
  • 5/5 from Marjorie Offord, attended Aug 2023: My tutor was Donna, a very experienced crafter. I have recently bought a 32S Hobbycraft sewing machine and wanted to learn all about it. Donna talked me through and showed me every function of the machine from identifying all the parts and threading the cotton, to doing fancy stitches, buttonholes and inserting zips. She had given me so much confidence. I can’t wait to get started.
  • 5/5 from Marsha Tovey, attended Aug 2023: Great lesson. Explained everything clearly. Will be coming back for more sewing machine lessons with Donna
  • 5/5 from Katy Hill, attended Jul 2023: Donna from the Harlow branch was fantastic. She understood my requirements and gave me plenty of ideas and guidance about my project. She spoke about my sewing machine and gave me a few pointers. She also provided some equipment in order to help show me what to do with my project. She’s a real asset to the team. Thank you Donna.
  • 5/5 from Kelly Thurbon, attended Jun 2023: Great 1 to 1 with the very knowledgeable Donna today, really helpful, doesn’t feel so daunting now trying to understand the manual

  • 5/5 from Toni Galano, attended May 2023: Great teacher. I Learnt a lot in just one hour. Was an enjoyable experience. Thank you
  • 5/5 from Lisa West, attended May 2023: Donna was great, really knowledgeable and helpful. The Harlow store itself is under-going a re-design so the “demonstration/classroom” space was not set up sadly. Perhaps should have mentioned when booking to bring own fabric, cotton etc. Also if you want a “how to” on a particular model of sewing machine to ask for this information when booking, rather than on arrival as the confirmation email suggests. The experience was definitely good value – Donna’s worth every penny! I learnt a lot about all the different functions, fabrics and needle choices for the perfect finish. Thank you Donna, can highly recommend.

Next time I will bring material, zips etc. for the demonstration which I hadn't thought of. I would definitely recommend this workshop. Excellent value for money.

  • 4/5 from Jane Dring, attended Jan 2022: My teacher was Donna and she was friendly and welcoming. The staff were surprised that I had been instructed by email Not to bring my own machine so had to find a machine the same as the one I own. I had prepared questions and Donna worked through all of them. I was not offered the chance to use the machine myself but I was able to watch Donna demonstrate how to select and use the different stitches, also how to maintain the machine.
  • 5/5 from Joanna Davis, attended Dec 2021: My trainer, Donna, was absolutely lovely. She couldn’t have been more helpful. She really went though my machine with me and I learned so much! I would really recommend booking this session.
  • 5/5 from Lynda Baker, attended Nov 2021: Teacher (Donna in Harlow) was excellent. She started by asking what I wanted to get out of the session, then proceeded to go through everything I wanted to know. She had me practise everything several times until I felt comfortable. Left feeling much more knowledgeable and keen to start using my sewing machine in earnest.

The sewing class was fun and I feel so much more confident now. She taught me how to use the different feet especially the button hole foot. All so very helpful and Donna was so patient. Debbie
  • 5/5 from Linda Seaman, attended Aug 2021: Donna was absolutely brilliant! As a complete novice with a new sewing machine, I now have some basic sewing skills. Thank you Donna for your patience and excellent knowledge, I will be booking another session soon.
  • 5/5 from Pam Mulholland, attended Aug 2021: Donna the trainer was very knowledgeable. She was able to guide me through the practical steps of how to understand a dress pattern, how to choose right needles, deal with stretchy fabrics and machine tension. She packed a lot in the hour. A sign telling other customers that a workshop is underway to say the trainer dealing with multiple customer interruptions.
