Join this lino carving and printing class in Stanley and discover a wonderful introduction to a calming, traditional craft. This enjoyable three-hour workshop is made for beginners, providing a low-pressure space to learn a new skill from scratch.
You'll start by getting to know the tools and materials needed to carve your lino block. To help you feel at ease, you'll first create a small texture block to practice basic carving techniques. Once you're feeling confident, you'll move on to carving a nature-themed design into soft-cut lino and learn how to print it by hand.
Inspired by the rich colours of flowers and leaves, you'll experiment with both plain and gradient colour printing to give your work a bright, seasonal feel. This class takes place in a small home workshop, ensuring you receive plenty of individual attention every step of the way. You'll also enjoy hot drinks and cake as you create, making it a truly feel-good way to spend an afternoon.
  • Get hands-on with carving tools – Learn the best ways to handle and use lino cutters safely.
  • Practice on a texture block – Build your confidence with simple marks before starting your main design.
  • Carve a nature-themed design – Create a unique lino block inspired by the natural world.
  • Master hand-printing – Learn how to apply ink and print your designs without a press.
  • Experiment with colour – Try out different inks and gradient techniques to make your prints pop.

Crafts for Wellbeing
Crafts for Wellbeing

I’m Carrie, and I’m an artist and art and crafts teacher based just outside Stanley, north east England. I have been teaching art and crafts since the early 2000s, and have been teaching these with wellbeing in mind since 2014, working with a local social prescribing service. Through personal experience I know just how engaging with art and crafts can bring about a wonderful sense of wellbeing and relaxation. I absolutely love passing on my knowledge and the benefits of art and craft for wellbeing.
My aim is to bring wellbeing through getting creative to everyone. I particularly love to teach absolute beginners and get them started on their creative journey. Rest assured, whatever your art and craft experience, I will guide you through the process and make it as enjoyable as I can for you. I work regularly with people who have long term illness, carers and people who live with depression and anxiety.
Since childhood I have always created art, and it has been a constant throughout my life. My main personal art focuses are printmaking, metal embossing, Celtic knotwork drawing and plein air sketching. Back in the 2000s I worked for a craft company for almost a decade, where I learned a lot of other arts and crafts, so I teach a wide range of skills.
Below are some of the organisations I work with either currently or have worked with on past projects:
Durham County Council – Highlights Rural Touring – Durham Lumiere – Newcastle Carers – Beamish Museum – Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre – Gateshead Art Diamonds - Breathing Space Witton Gilbert - plus many more!
As well as scheduled workshops, you are welcome to book a private workshop in my studio for between 2 and 4 people, or book a workshop for up to 12 people for your group or organisation, hosted at your own venue.
I look forward to welcoming you to a workshop soon!
