Ceramic Plate Carving Workshop

Get hands-on with clay in this pottery class in Saltford and learn to make your very own carved slab plate, using a technique that's a bit like pottery painting – except instead of a paintbrush, you'll be using a carving tool.You'll start by shaping your plate from slabs of clay, then cover it with coloured slip before carving away at your design, revealing the white clay beneath to bring your pattern to life. It's a wonderfully satisfying, almost meditative process, and completely suited to beginners – no experience needed, and all materials are provided. It's worth coming along with a few design ideas in mind, but there'll be plenty of guidance to help your vision take shape.Your finished plate will be left to dry and fire, ready for collection from the venue in 2–4 weeks – a one-of-a-kind piece that shows off your newfound carving skills.
