Visible Mending Workshop

Transform worn clothes into beautiful storytelling pieces at this visible mending class in Inkersall.

2.5 hours Class size 1 to 15 guests       £40

Join this visible mending workshop and discover the meditative art of darning and patching to renovate the garments you already own. This hands-on experience is a wonderful way to slow down and repurpose your clothes with beautiful repairs that tell a story rather than hide it. You'll learn to turn worn spots and tears into unique badges of love, ensuring your favourite pieces stay in use for much longer.
Throughout the session, you'll explore visible mending traditions from various cultures, including Japanese Sashiko for creating geometric patterns, the layered patchwork of Boro, and the intricate embroidery of Indian Kantha. Working in a small, supportive group, you'll get comfortable using wooden darning mushrooms and various needles to master these sustainable skills. Whether you're a complete beginner or have tried a little mending before, this low-pressure environment is perfect for finding your creative spark.
By the end of this two and a half hour class, you'll have gained a lifelong skill that allows you to approach fashion more mindfully. You'll leave with your practice swatch and your newly mended garments, feeling empowered by the life-affirming ability to repair and refresh your own wardrobe.
Woven and knitted fabric pieces, threads, yarns, and needles will all be provided along with refreshments.
Please note: Your practice swatch and mended garments are yours to take home.
