Cordage & Rope

Cordage & Rope

We'll work mainly with paracord, looking at useful knots as well as how to keep our resources packed away well while moving around.

Learning Knots

Learning Knots

I'll teach 5 or 6 knots in a session. I use these knots all of the time when setting up camp or creating woodland structures and each one has a purpose in the various activities!

Making Shelter

Making Shelter

Using a camp tarp, we'll utilise the knots we've learnt to put these up and pack them away. A tarp is great when its raining but can also be used for shade in the sun, camouflage if you're wild camping or even as a makeshift tent itself.

Using Tools

Using Tools

We use some sharp tools in bushcraft. This might be for cutting cord or finding wood to use in activities. We'll look at all of the safety precautions first then at good techniques for a range of craft and camp projects.

Step into the woods and explore the essentials of shelter rigging and knot-work in this hands-on bushcraft session. Over four hours, you’ll explore a range of knots, hitches, and wraps to create ridge lines, put up shelters, make dens, and even rope bridges. We’ll also look at how to pack your camp down and neatly store your cord and kit ready for rapid deployment the next time you’re out.
A tarp can easily be thrown up to create shelter, and it makes a great instant base of operations for collecting wood, carving, cooking, and so on. Den-building is usually a longer-term activity, but we’ll look at the basics so you can easily take on a project of your own.
What to expect:
  • Learn a range of camp knots.
  • Use the knots in context in a camp set-up.
  • Explore temporary shelter options when it’s raining.
  • Learn lashing techniques for stretchers, ladders, chairs, benches, and dens.
  • Enjoy a ramble through the woods to forage raw materials and soak up the outdoors.
This experience is perfect for kids, adults, or families learning together. You’ll walk away with not just practical skills but also greater confidence in enjoying the outdoors, rain or shine.
Please bring a snack, lunch, and a drink, and be prepared for a good walk in nature. My friendly, well-behaved dog usually joins us too—let me know if that’s an issue. She's super sweet and well-behaved, and she loves these sessions as much as any of us.
What you'll get
  • Gain new skills and confidence in your outdoor abilities.
  • You'll learn useful knots for outdoor situations and have a lovely walk in the outdoors.

I'm Bob and I teach bushcraft skills - fire-lighting, whittling, den-building, wild food, camp set up, knots, leatherwork, a whole range of stuff. For me bushcraft is about getting super comfortable with the outdoors and confident about finding resources for food, craft and shelter whatever the weather. I've taught kids regularly for many years now but I love working with adults as well and often see the same kind of joy as people discover a new skill.
I love to carve and that's what got me in to bushcraft in the first place and I'm happiest really when I'm making and creating. I make wooden spoons, spatulas and bowls to sell but I love to teach as well, and working with wood has led me on to a wider range of outdoor skills which we'll look at in the classes.
Things like fire-lighting, finding natural tinder, camp cooking or setting up shelters can be done in one-off sessions but some of the activities might take more time so I recommend coming for a taster session and if you get hooked coming back for some longer term projects.
