Learn to Crochet Class - Granny Squares

If you’d like to discover the mindful art of crochet, this class is for you.

3 hours Class size 1 to 5 guests       £30

In a relaxed and welcoming setting, you’ll learn how to get started with crochet, connect with fellow crochet enthusiasts, and experience how the steady rhythm of crochet can help calm the mind, ease stress, and bring your attention into the present moment.
I will guide you through each step at this in-person event at my home in Wolverton, Milton Keynes. Class sizes are limited to five so that we can all sit comfortably around a table together and I can ensure that everyone receives the attention they need. This class is suitable for right and left-handed students and lasts for three hours with a break in the middle for refreshments (including a homemade bake!)
During the workshop, we will cover:
  • How to hold your hook and yarn
  • Chain stitch
  • Slip stitch
  • The treble crochet stitch
  • How to make a granny square
  • How to join rows
  • How to make colour changes
This workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those who have started crocheting but need a bit of help to improve their work or get started on granny squares. You’ll leave with your own granny square creation and the confidence to continue practising at home.
Please note that you may get a cheerful welcome from my excitable chocolate Labrador, who likes to say hello before settling down on the sofa. If you or your child are allergic to dogs or feel uncomfortable around them, please let me know before booking so I can make alternative arrangements for her.
Please subscribe to my mailing list if you want to receive information on new courses, offers and discounts.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 2 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

  • 5/5 from Jane Storey, attended Feb 2026: This was my second visit to Sandra and the crochet class was just as good as the darning class. We were given crotchet hooks and wool and very quickly were able to produce chain stitches and trebles to create a strip of work. We then moved onto Granny Squares and by the end had completely got the hang of it and had completed 90% of a whole square. Obviously we were then able to take this away and complete it at home. Sandra was patient and very attentive and an excellent teacher. It was a relaxed and pleasant afternoon and I'm hoping to continue with her next crotchet class. Can't wait!

Hello, my name is Sandra. I learned to knit when I was seven and still remember standing in the school playground with knitting needles in my hands and a ball of wool in my pocket. I discovered crochet at twelve, starting with a granny square blanket.
Later, I became interested in visible mending and added the Japanese technique of Sashiko to my darning skills, allowing me to repair a wide range of worn and holey textiles.
I love teaching and sharing my creative skills. Seeing students’ enjoyment when they learn something new is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Whenever possible, I use pre-loved materials in both my own work and my classes. My darning and embroidery threads, buttons, knitting needles and some of my yarns are second-hand. This helps me reduce waste, live more sustainably and keep costs down.
I teach crochet, darning and knitting in small classes for adults and children. I also offer individual tuition at £20 p/h. I will travel up to 10 miles from Wolverton (MK12 5) for customers who would like tuition at home.
