In this specialized workshop, you'll learn how to use the beautiful Keum Boo technique to add 24ct gold accents to your silver jewellery designs. Throughout the day, you'll master this ancient Korean gilding method while creating a finished piece of jewellery that combines precious metals in an elegant and distinctive way.
This creative activity is designed for those with some prior experience in silver jewellery making, as you'll be building on existing metalworking skills. If you've been wondering how to add that luxurious touch of gold to your silver pieces without the expense of solid gold components, this workshop provides the perfect solution.
During the day (10am-4pm), you'll begin with an introduction and demonstration of the Keum Boo technique, learning how to permanently bond delicate 24ct gold foil to silver surfaces. You'll then have the opportunity to choose from three different projects, each with comprehensive instruction sheets. The workshop includes various complementary techniques for adding texture and oxidisation to enhance your designs. More experienced jewellers are welcome to use the projects as inspiration for their own designs or simply enjoy a day of creative experimentation and sample-making.
By the end of this illuminating workshop, you'll have acquired a valuable new technique to incorporate into your jewellery-making repertoire, along with a finished gold-on-silver piece that showcases your newfound skills. The combination of structured guidance and creative freedom makes this an enriching experience for jewellers looking to expand their technical abilities.
Please note: This workshop is not suitable for complete beginners—some prior experience with silver jewellery making is required.

I design and make jewellery in silver and gold, drawing inspiration from the urban textures and leafy details found in Nottingham and York, both of which I call home. Metal stamps and texturing methods are used to ‘draw’ on the surface of the silver, creating illustrative and tactile pieces of jewellery full of detail and pattern. I have developed the technique of using my stamps in combination with the process of Keum Boo, the ancient Korean technique of bonding 24ct gold foil to silver, to create a unique look to my pieces.
I teach workshops at the Nottingham Jewellery School on how to use the Keum Boo technique to add a touch of gold to your jewellery designs. Suitable for people who already have some experience of making silver jewellery, and want to learn a new process.
I can also offer provate one to one classes at my home studio in Nottingham.
