  • 5/5 from Kerry Nicholas, attended Jan 2026: Cathy was friendly, patient, encouraging and fun to run the glass. We loved the venue and were lucky to have a sunny day in January. We were a group of 4 and all of us were really pleased we made something together that we were all pleased with. Thanks Cathy!
  • 5/5 from Tracy Hardy, attended Jul 2025: Bought as a gift for a Friends birthday and it combines a joint activity and a present in one. It was excellent. I'm not artistic but choosing colours with good instruction, it was not difficult to achieve something to feel proud of.
  • 5/5 from Marion Davies, attended Feb 2025: A wonderful morning making a seascape. Cathy was very informative and helpful and had a huge range of materials to experiment with. Very enjoyable

It was great to work in a small class and be able to share ideas with others while producing an individual piece of glasswork. Cathy was very supportive throughout the process.

Angelina and Cathy met by chance whilst selling their work in Penarth, Christmas 2013. Their shared love of all things glass saw them develop a friendship and continue to work together.
Their first idea was to develop an Open Studio trail for any local artist/crafter during the annual Penarth festival that following summer. It has fast become an established part of the festival and is developing year on year.
They then joined a designer-maker section in a local Penarth shop where their customer base was steadily growing. Customers embraced the idea of bespoke, locally made pieces, rather than mass-produced imported ones that have saturated the marketplace.
Their next logical step was to be able to work on-site and pass their love of the process of hand-making in glass to others. Hence, Glass By Design was born.
