Christmas Pottery Workshop: Sgraffito Christmas Tree Plate

Learn the pottery technique sgraffito and decorate a Christmas tree shaped plate, perfect for serving mince pies!

2 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests       £28

Sgraffito is a pottery decoration technique that dates back to the tenth century and is still used today! The word sgraffito comes from the Italian for "scratched" and that is exactly how you will create your design on your trinket dish; layers of colourful underglaze will be scratched away to create white lines and patterns.
In this two-hour workshop, you will be provided with a leather-hard Christmas Tree Plate (this means it's clay that hasn't been fired) andyou will use a variety of tools to scrape through the layers of underglaze to create your pattern.
At the end of the workshop, your finished piece will be fired and glazed and ready to collect from Hazlehurst Studios within a week.
When your plate is finished, it would be perfect for keeping bits and pieces, rings and things, or general miscellania in.
This workshop is open to all ages; anyone who can hold a pencil can do sgraffito!
There is an afternoon session from 1-3.30pm and an evening session from 5-7.30pm.
What you'll get
A ceramic Christmas tree plate that they can collect from Hazlehurst Studios within 10 days.

Hi, I’m Courtney, a potter and craftsperson based in Runcorn, Cheshire.
I have always been creative and had the “I could make that!” gene that has lead me to try a lot of different things!
I first started pottery in 2019 when I was struggling with my mental health. I have always had perfectionist tendencies so I wanted to try something completely new to me that would encourage me to embrace the messiness and imperfections of the work I would create; pottery was perfect!
I love teaching and sharing my knowledge about pottery painting and pottery with workshop attendees. I always endeavour to create a fun, accessible and welcoming atmosphere for everybody. I want people to feel comfortable as I know it can be nerve wracking trying new things or not knowing how to get started.
