Botanical Bas-Relief Casting Workshop

Join us for a fun workshop to create beautiful botanical bas-relief castings with clay and eco-resin.

3 hours Class size 1 to 12 guests       £76 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

During this half-day workshop, you will discover how to create a beautiful botanical bas-relief casting, working with clay and eco-resin, with tutor Emma.
Embed homegrown (by Emma) or UK-grown fresh and dried botanicals to form your very own cottage garden, wildflower meadow, bouquet of flowers, or choose a singular flower for impact. Choose to keep it off-white or add pigments for colour.
You’ll take home at least three pieces of artwork, including handmade resin stands made by Emma for those smaller pieces.
In this workshop, you will:
Learn how to prepare your clay (a choice of grey air-dry Scola clay for that vintage look, or when adding colour, or DAS modelling white clay for those wanting more of a fresh look) before arranging your botanicals. Here you will form an imprint ready to pour eco-resin into to form your bas-relief sculpture.
Choose from a silicone hanging mould design (circular, wavy-edged, heart) or a rustic handmade mould made by you (rustic circular, rectangular, or square) for hanging or freestanding on a stand. Or choose both to discover different methods of casting.
Add eco-resin pigment to colour your concrete casting for added effect or keep it off-white before leaving it to cure.
Once you have got to grips with the art of sculpting, select a larger oval or round-shaped hanging frame (for that vintage look) or create a larger freestanding mould shape of your choice for your showstopper piece.
Demould your designs and prepare them ready to finish, deciding whether it’s the natural look or work with watercolours (or acrylics), embellish with imitation gold leaf (other colours available), and/or seal with Mod Podge. Please note that the acrylics and watercolours will need to be fully dry before this is done to avoid smudging, so this may be done at a later stage if we are struggling for time during the workshop.

Launched in 2014, Lechlade Craft Barn was created by Karen Holland and is based in an old stone barn at Karen’s Cotswold home in the beautiful market town of Lechlade-on-Thames. Lechlade is on the borders of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Oxfordshire not far from Cirencester, Burford and Swindon. The barn is full of character and inspiration, a perfect environment to get crafty!
Karen wanted to share her passion for crafting with others and starting with just 3 or 4 different workshops the demand for more crafting soon increased. Led by Karen and her team of talented tutors there is a wide range of affordable craft workshops to choose from such as crochet, mosaics, lampshade making, block printing, silversmithing, bookbinding, lino cutting, stained glass, pyrography, silver clay, and much more.
All workshops are aimed at beginners and upwards – whether you’re exploring a craft for the first time or topping up existing skills, each workshop is fun and relaxed. Craft your way to happiness with a craft barn workshop or one of the kits available to make at home.
Crafty Parties are a great way to spend fun time with friends or family celebrating a birthday or hen party. Spend a couple of hours or a whole day, even those non-crafty friends enjoy themselves!
Karen has been making things since a small child. At primary school she made a needle case for the Christmas Bazaar, bought it herself and is still using it 50 years later! Having learned how to knit, crochet, and sew at a young age, Karen was making her own clothes by the age of 11.
We all have busy lives, families and work commitments that all take priority. During the Pandemic we found crafting the perfect boost needed for everyone's wellbeing and we should be giving ourselves a little 'me' time to unwind. What better way to do it than crafting!
You're never too old to learn a new skill. Karen has just taught her mother to crochet at the age of 84!
