Botanical Dyeing and Cheese Tasting Evening Class

An evening of botanical dyeing - where plants, flowers, and herbs meet your creativity!

2 hours Class size 1 to 10 guests       £29 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Discover the Japanese art of Tatakizome in this 'Botanical Night' workshop in Manchester, where you'll learn how to create a beautiful piece from petal to palette. This is a wonderful activity for anyone looking to combine creativity, nature, and flavour in one evening.
You will get hands-on as you explore Tatakizome, an ancient technique more commonly known as flower pounding. Your friendly guide will show you how to hammer fresh plants to transfer their natural pigments and delicate patterns, creating a beautiful, one-of-a-kind design. You can choose to craft either a silk scrunchie or a bespoke paper garland.
The natural experience continues with an optional botanical cheese board, featuring cheeses paired with edible flowers and herbs, each infused with delicate flavours. This is all enjoyed in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that celebrates nature and creativity.
What to expect from this workshop:
  • A guided introduction to Tatakizome botanical dyeing techniques
  • The chance to create your own naturally dyed piece (a silk scrunchie or paper garland)
  • An opportunity to indulge in a delicious cheese board with edible flowers and herbs for an additional £25

I am Claire the creative force behind Three Storey Design, a brand born in Autumn 2022, South Manchester.
After 23 years as a clothing designer, I decided to embark on a new adventure. I took time away from the fast-paced fashion industry to reconnect with the world of craft, a space where I could again work with my hands and embrace the creative freedom I had missed.
Inspired by nature, I love to use traditional techniques to create vibrant colours and prints derived from local botanical sources. My interest extends beyond design, recognising the important role that nature plays in supporting our wellbeing – a value that has always been central to my life.
At Three Storey Design, I design, dye, and produce handcrafted products using natural botanical extract dyes, flowers, and plants on silk and cotton fabrics. I hand-dye and sew bespoke accessories between her home studio and Studio 16 at the Manchester Craft & Design Centre.
I also proudly host Natural Silk Dyeing Workshops at the Manchester Craft & Design Centre and other recognisable locations across Greater Manchester. These workshops, designed for groups, private parties, and corporate events, offer a unique opportunity for participants of all skill levels to create beautiful hand-dyed silk scarves. Attendees learn ancient techniques, Bundle Dyeing and the traditional Japanese art of Tatakizome, or flower pounding.
