Boro: Japanese Stitching Bookmark Workshop

Discover the beauty of Boro, the traditional Japanese art of visible mending and layered stitching.

2.5 hours Class size 6 to 15 guests

£20 - £40 (£20 for Public class; £40 for Private class) (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Rooted in sustainability and mindfulness, Boro embraces imperfections and transforms worn textiles into pieces of beauty and strength. Immerse yourself in the world of textiles and sustainable practices.
Don't worry if this is your first introduction to Boro -- this session is set up for beginners to learn, practice, and reflect together. You can either bring something to repair or we will introduce you to the stitches and create a bookmark so you can transfer the skills later.
What to expect:
  • Learn about the history and philosophy of Boro stitching.
  • How to layer and patch fabrics for repair or design.
  • Essential hand stitches used in Boro, including sashiko-style running stitches
  • Together we’ll reflect on the values behind Boro — making do, repairing with pride, and finding beauty in imperfection — while enjoying the satisfaction of crafting something truly personal.
  • At the end of the workshop you will leave with a Boro stitch bookmark.
All materials will be provided. Just bring your curiosity and leave with new skills, inspiration, and a handmade bookmark.
Proceeds go towards our community art projects, providing mental well-being and creative health, especially for those facing barriers.
What you'll get
  • Materials to complete your own boro stitch artwork to take home.
  • Nibbles, tea, coffee, and a glass of wine or a bottle of beer each.
