We know books have been made on Iona at least as long ago as the 9th century when the Book of Kells was created, and likely long before that. Now you can try this wonderful craft yourself while you’re visiting the island.

Guided by an expert and passionate bookbinder, you'll spend a couple of hours alongside other interested individuals as you are taken through the steps of creating your very own book.

This bookbinding class is designed for beginners and all the tools and materials you need to make your own book are provided. You'll learn in a creative space with beautiful views of Iona, and you'll be supported to create two blank books in a style you love.

If you're looking for fun things to do on Iona whilst visiting for a few days, this standalone craft class is an ideal way to blend some creativity into your island stay. You'll finish up your class with a unique handmade memento of your time on Iona, as well as the skills and knowledge to develop your knowledge and skills in book binding independently.

Hello! I’m a self-proclaimed book nerd. And proud of it. I'm a professional bibliopegist, which means that bookbinding is my pastime, but it’s also my passion and profession.

I’m fascinated by the engineering of books and have an almost obsessive desire to learn and understand new structures.

I work out of a small studio on the idyllic Scottish island of Iona, (if you’ve never been, I highly recommend it; it is, amongst other things, the birthplace of the Book of Kells) where I’ve lived for ten years now. Iona’s landscape – its natural colours of sand sea and rocks – are a huge inspiration to me.

I am an experienced teacher and am excited to share the joys of bookbinding with you.
