Bi Poets Writing Group

A fun, friendly, and relaxed space to hang out with some Bi+ pals and maybe write some poems!

2 hours Class size 1 to 40 guests       £4

Love writing poems? Never written one in your life? Just want to hang out in a friendly Bi+ space? This is the place for you! Everyone is welcome.
This is a wonderful activity where you can relax, do some writing, and maybe make a new friend. While it isn't a formally guided workshop, there will be plenty of poetry books and prompts on hand if you need a bit of inspiration. You can also just come to chat and read some poems – the main goal is for you to feel welcome and have a good time.
What's extra exciting is the chance to be part of a poetry showcase in September, in collaboration with Social Refuge! These fun sessions are the perfect opportunity to work on your poems for the performance. And please don't worry if you've never performed before. I'll be on hand to help you with edits so you can learn how to feel super confident sharing your words.
This is an ongoing monthly group. As a working-class writer, I know that pay barriers can be a real issue, so while there's a nominal charge for these sessions, concession options are available if the cost is a barrier for you.
You'll leave this session feeling connected and creatively inspired, whether you've written a masterpiece, read a new favourite poem, or simply enjoyed being in a lovely, supportive space.
What you'll get
Gentle and relaxed writing time in a focused, inclusive, supportive environment.
Knowledge required
No skills or experience necessary, this is a space for anyone and everyone :)
What to bring
Something to write with, anything you've found inspiring that you'd like to share, or just your lovely selves (I'll always bring pens, paper, and books)
Location

Hi, I'm Rachael and I believe in the importance of creating space for artistic pursuit, even when modern busy life makes it really super hard to do so. Poetry and its pursuit have and continue to bring me personal insight, peace, and profound joy, and I want to help everyone find that space and connect with the things they want and need to explore.
I'm a Manchester poet and creative human; founder of The Space Poetic, a hybrid event bringing spoken and written poetry together in a monthly poetry gallery and open mic in Manchester's Northern Quarter; a current MFA student at The Manchester Writing School; poetry workshop and events facilitator; a 2024 Comino Poet in Residence; writer of ‘Letter as a jellyfish to all my ex’s, all of you’ which was awarded a runner up prize in Wirral Poetry Festivals’ 2024 Competition; writer at Poet Notes on Substack... oh and some of my poems have appeared in several small anthologies and been both long and shortlisted in some well known competitions including The Fish, The Plough, and Bridport Poetry Prizes. Recently my piece 'Venn diagram featuring working class wages and lemons' appeared on Ink Sweat and Tears.
Anything else? Oh yeah, when I'm not busy wording I'm probably making friends with street cats, lolling around in sunny parks, or out rock climbing, hiking, and exploring.
Why come to my workshops and events? Because they're a safe and welcoming space for anyone and everyone no matter your circumstances or previous experience to come and spend some time enjoying being creative :)
I can't wait to write with you friends!
