Beginners Pottery Wheel Throwing Class

Step onto the wheel for a hands-on introduction to throwing pottery at Churchgate Mill in Stockport, in a class designed for beginners and improvers alike – and easily adapted to suit your own needs and abilities.These one-to-one or one-to-two sessions are built around learning the key processes and fundamentals of wheel-throwing. Following a demonstration from your teacher, the potter and founder of Calico Collective, you'll be guided through every stage with plenty of support along the way.You'll cover:

• Getting comfortable on the wheel
• Clay preparation
• Useful tools
• Centring
• Pulling walls
• Refining shapes
• Removing the piece from the wheel

With such a small group, you'll have your teacher's undivided attention throughout, so the session can be tailored entirely to your ability and to whatever you'd most like to learn.Duration: approximately 2 hoursWhat's included: materials (including one pot, which you'll trim, glaze and have fired in your choice of colour), aprons, refreshments and nibbles. You're welcome to bring a bottle or extra snacks along too.Please note:

• There's one pottery wheel in the studio, so if you come as a pair, you'll take it in turns to throw
• The space is shared with two other ceramicists, who may be present during your session
