I have a little experience painting but none with oils, so this was the perfect introduction. It was a really chilled atmosphere and we had plenty of time to finish our paintings. The guidance was detailed and helpful, but you could still work independently. Highly recommend! I’ll be looking to do more sessions.

He taught us about the paint itself and demonstrated a step by step technique for creating a 3D effect using tonal values. We completed a small painting of fruit. It was a small group, so there was lots of (unobtrusive) attention and opportunity to ask questions. Good value as all materials were included. My advice would be to take a container of some sort to put the painting in as it was difficult to transport home whilst still drying.

I am creative but have always found painting to be quite intimidating so I was really pleased with how my little lemon came out! Looking forward to the intermediate class now :)

It was a great studio environment to work in everything was set up ready with all the equipment needed. Jasper was patient and demonstrated each step thoroughly which helped build confidence. It was a relaxed and supportive atmosphere and so I would highly recommend.

We worked in stages from sketching basic shapes, refining these then indicating our areas of light and dark values which we then painted in, and then we worked more on how to indicate shape and texture. The vibe was great with jazz music and a relaxed atmosphere. In the end, I’m super pleased with my final piece, especially as a complete beginner to oils. Would definitely recommend!!

It was relaxed and a great class for beginners: Jasper explained all the fundamentals of how to paint with oil paints, using the tools, composition, colour mixing etc. He is an extremely approachable, kind and talented tutor. All the materials were provided. Will definitely attend another class at the studio.

It is because of my deafness which was hard to follow so the written notes was very helpful. I learnt a lot about the painting on how to use colour and light/dark tones and how to clean brushes. I’m glad it went well and really happy with the outcome of my oil painting. Look at picture of my painting of Apple and Lemon. I would go again next time. Thank you so much.

Our teacher was very supportive and extremely knowledgeable. Having never used oil paint before I left with a credible picture and more importantly the knowledge and confidence to take this forward in my own time. Thank you very much, great session.

The teacher was so knowledgeable and really helpful, he gave us a lot of painting tips! I had never used oil paints before this class but it felt easy when the teacher broke down the steps. It was super fun and interesting, especially good once your painting starts to come together after applying the techniques. Jasper was a brilliant host and the venue is really cool, nice atmosphere with some chilled jazz setting the tones. 110% recommend!

Jasper was a great teacher who broke down painting into easy-to-digest techniques and I ended up being very happy with what I made - which was a change for me as I'm not the most natural artist, to say the least. It's also in a great location in the Northern Quarter, and the vibes in the studio are on point. I would highly recommend!

Overall, the session was very enjoyable, unique and engaging I and my guest had no experience oil painting but, Jasper’s tutelage was great and was key to an enjoyable experience and us making great paintings. As well as creating fine oil paintings, we were given great insight into oil paintings and their associated techniques. Jasper’s conversational/social skills were tremendous in illustrating the insight into oil paintings and general conversations had on varying topics. We felt comfortable the entire time and had a great experience, 10 out of 10!!! I highly recommend booking with Jasper and Fresno Art.
