Beginner's Guide to Crocheting a Granny Square

Join us in-store to discover the joys of crochet with a classic granny square project, ideal for beginners.

1.5 hours Class size 4 to 5 guests       £29

Fall in love with crochet by creating a classic granny square! You’ll be able to combine beautiful colours to stitch this traditional crochet design, perfect for setting you up for so many other projects. Granny squares can be used to make blankets, garments and more – we’re here to help you get started with your first one.

With the help of an Hobbycraft Artisan, you’ll learn how to crochet a granny square by using all the key techniques. You’ll use double and treble stitches, as well as learning how to decipher a granny square pattern and how to change yarn colours.

There’s a kit included with the workshop to give you everything you need for the project. Within the 90-minute session, you’ll be able to create one granny square, though you can continue to practice making more once you’ve got to grips with all the skills. The kit even features a pattern for a granny square blanket to help you continue your adventure in crochet!

This workshop is the perfect way to grow your crochet confidence, with tips and support from a pro! It’s ideal if you already have basic knowledge of the stitches but are looking to refresh yourself or develop further.

  • 4/5 from Rosalind Robinson, attended Dec 2023: The teacher, Chloe, was lovely and very patient. She explained and modelled until we felt confident. She was positive and encouraging. The facilities were fine and the materials good. This face to face class worked much better for myself and my granddaughter. There were only four people in the group but of very different abilities and actually being there enabled Chloe to give appropriate help to each individual. We thoroughly enjoyed it and I thought it was good value for money.
