Join us in-store to discover the joys of crochet with a classic granny square project, ideal for beginners.

1.5 hours Class size 4 to 5 guests       £29

Fall in love with crochet by creating a classic granny square! You’ll be able to combine beautiful colours to stitch this traditional crochet design, perfect for setting you up for so many other projects. Granny squares can be used to make blankets, garments and more – we’re here to help you get started with your first one.

With the help of an Hobbycraft Artisan, you’ll learn how to crochet a granny square by using all the key techniques. You’ll use double and treble stitches, as well as learning how to decipher a granny square pattern and how to change yarn colours.

There’s a kit included with the workshop to give you everything you need for the project. Within the 90-minute session, you’ll be able to create one granny square, though you can continue to practice making more once you’ve got to grips with all the skills. The kit even features a pattern for a granny square blanket to help you continue your adventure in crochet!

This workshop is the perfect way to grow your crochet confidence, with tips and support from a pro! It’s ideal if you already have basic knowledge of the stitches but are looking to refresh yourself or develop further.

  • 5/5 from Helen Quick, attended Dec 2024: The Granny Square workshop at Chesterfield, was as good as my previous beginners crocheting workshop. I’d highly recommended them! Our teacher gave clear instructions and was very supportive and patient. It was much easier than trying to follow a book or video. Also it was good to have a chat with others in the group. I came away feeling confident, having successfully created one square. I then completed three more at home - very addictive. I’m now aiming to make another blanket.

Unfortunately I am still useless at downloading photos. I had a very enjoyable time. Brilliant workshop thank you Sharon
