Discover the joy of hand-building with clay in this engaging three-hour pottery workshop in Glasgow, where you'll create a unique vessel entirely your own way. This isn't about making a specific object – it's about giving you the freedom to explore clay and make whatever captures your imagination, with expert guidance and support every step of the way. Whether you're completely new to ceramics or returning to clay after years away, you'll feel welcome and encouraged.
You'll start with a practice ball of clay to get a real feel for the material, then your teacher will guide you through the essential hand-building techniques: understanding how clay behaves, using pinching and coiling to build your form, learning how to securely join sections, and smoothing and refining your design. It's wonderfully hands-on and creative – you'll discover what's possible with clay and develop genuine skills as you work. All the clay, tools, and equipment you need are provided, so you can just focus on the pleasure of making.
Once you've finished, your teacher will handle the finishing touches for you – applying a beautiful neutral glaze and firing your creation in the kiln. You'll receive two fired pieces per person, and if you create extra pieces you'd like fired, they can be done for £5 each. You'll leave with handmade ceramic vessels you've created yourself, unique pieces that reflect exactly what you imagined when you sat down with the clay.
What you'll get
A completed ceramic artwork.

Hi! I'm Emma and I'm the potter behind Studio Yōki, ceramic studio based in Glasgow. Specialising in small batch planters and vases, alongside a selection of homewares, I use traditional hand building techniques such as pinching and coiling to create characterful pieces of pottery.
I have a passion for teaching others my skills and run a selection of fun and therapeutic hand building workshops. So if you enjoy getting your hands dirty, making a flower vase or floral bowl, come and join me in one of my hand building workshops. (You might even win potter of the workshop!)
