Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī (Persian: جلال‌الدین محمد رومی) more popularly known simply as Rumi, was a 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic scholar and Sufi mystic originally from Khorasan in Greater Iran (Modern day Afghanistan)
As one of the most quoted people of all time, the influence of Rumi's' words transcend national borders, religion and ethnic divisions and time.
The experts at The Creative Society Manchester have created a workshop based on a mesmerising image of a whirling dervish, inspired by the quotes below.
The Mevlevis are also known as the “whirling dervishes” due to their famous practice of whirling as a form of dhikr (remembrance of God). Dervish is a common term for an initiate of the Sufi path.

You will be concentrating on colour, form and creating movement in your pieces and you'll take your own piece home at the end of the session to hang with pride. You'll enjoy plenty of guidance from your tutor, too, so no worries about getting stuck! There'll also be some relaxing Persian music, snacks and drinks to enjoy to complete this immersive experience.

Led by Sumayyah, a full time local artist and mindfulness instructor. With Sumayyah's background in art psychology, she is passionate about creating a safe and judgement-free space for attendees. We believe that creative sessions should be fun, enjoyable, and inclusive, providing you with a much-needed escape from the stresses of everyday life.
When you join one of our workshops, you'll be introduced to a range of materials and techniques. We'll guide you through the process, ensuring that you feel comfortable and confident in exploring your creative side.
From painting, pottery, crochet, geometry, calligraphy and drawing, to other art forms, we cover a diverse range of artistic expressions.
