What you'll do
In this exciting workshop, you'll learn how to create a stunning painting of the iconic Egyptian queen, Cleopatra, on real Egyptian papyrus!Guided by a friendly local artist, you will explore traditional art methods and delve into the rich history of Ancient Egypt and its kings and queens! Paint along to Egyptian music, try on costume and order snacks and drinks from the Portico cafe!No previous painting experience is necessary, so don't worry if you're a beginner. The image of Cleopatra will already be pre-drawn onto the authentic Egyptian papyrus, so you can focus on bringing her to life with your own colors and creative touches!During the class, you'll have the option to embellish your masterpiece with gold leaf, just like the luxurious embellishments found in traditional Ancient Egyptian art. This will add an exquisite touch to your royal creation.The workshop will take place at The Portico Library, a historic venue that is home to the famous Belzoni illustrations – a collection showcasing the wonders of Egypt. You will even have the exclusive opportunity to privately view these illustrations and learn more about their historical significance from Portico historian, Dr. Debbie Challis.Throughout the workshop, expect a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where laughter and creativity flows freely. The class is designed to not only teach you new artistic skills, but also to provide a space for relaxation and connection.By the end of the workshop, you will have created a one-of-a-kind painting of Cleopatra on Egyptian papyrus to take home with you.
