Ready to find your new favourite hobby? Join ceramic artist Rhi Jarman for a fun and hands-on wheel throwing workshop in Gloucestershire! This workshop is a great way to explore the ancient craft of ceramics while creating your own unique pieces.
Never tried pottery before? No worries! Perfect for beginners, you’ll be guided step by step through the process, with demonstrations and support to help you build confidence on the wheel.
What to expect:
  • Learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing.
  • Watch demonstrations on centring clay, opening forms, and pulling up walls.
  • Practice throwing your own pots with guidance throughout.
  • Explore different techniques to find what works best for you.
  • Choose your favourite piece to be glazed in white or transparent and stoneware fired!
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own handmade pottery and experienced the satisfying process of shaping clay on the wheel.
What you'll get
  • All materials and firings are included. One piece of work will be fired with a transparent glaze (allow 6 weeks -- we'll let you know when it's ready for collection!)
  • Refreshments are available at our on-site café, Blend, until 4pm.
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly, 18+.
What to bring
  • Please bring an apron or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! Clay will wash out of clothes.
  • Please remove jewellery/watches and tie long hair back. We suggest trimming long nails for ease.
  • You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you, but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
